We had a great planting with Maketu Kura at Newdicks Beach today. 12 tamariki from years 1 to 3 came and planted 144 pingao in the dunes. They learnt in class about using pingao for weaving so were able to see how to harvest it from some of the mature plants. The tamariki also planted a pohutukawa tree and they look forward to coming back to check on how it is doing.
Thank you to Coastcare for running the planting day. It is wonderful to be able to give the local students the chance to get out of the classroom and learn about conservation in action.
